Can Faith and Grief Exist at the Same Time?

Yes. Faith and grief can exist in the same place.

I think sometimes people make us feel like if we truly trust YHWH, then grief should look different. Like faith should cancel the tears, quiet every question, or make the pain easier to carry. But that has not been my experience.

I have had faith and still hurt. I have prayed and still cried. I have trusted YHWH and still had moments when I did not understand what He allowed, why something happened, or how I was supposed to keep moving forward after it did.

Grief Does Not Mean Your Faith Is Weak

Grief is not proof that you have lost faith. Grief is proof that something mattered. Someone mattered. A relationship mattered. A dream mattered. A part of your life changed, and your heart knows it.

You do not have to rush past that truth just to look strong. YHWH is not intimidated by your tears, your questions, or the days when all you can do is get through the day.

Faith Is Not Pretending You Are Fine

For me, faith has never meant pretending. It has meant continuing to believe even when I did not feel strong. It has meant talking to YHWH honestly instead of performing strength for people who were never carrying what I was carrying.

There are times when faith sounds like praise. There are other times when faith sounds like, “YHWH, I do not understand this, but I am still here.” Both are real.

You Can Miss What Was Lost and Still Move Forward

Healing does not require you to stop missing who or what you lost. Moving forward does not mean leaving love behind. Some losses become part of your story forever, but they do not have to become the end of your story.

There is room to remember and still laugh again. There is room to honor what was and still make space for what is ahead. There is room for grief and gratitude to sit at the same table.

YHWH Can Meet You in the Middle of Grief

Some of the deepest healing does not happen after the grief is over. It happens while you are still walking through it. In the middle of the questions. In the middle of the memories. In the middle of learning how to live with something you never asked to carry.

And sometimes the evidence of faith is not that you never broke down. It is that somehow, even after breaking down, you kept getting back up.

Give Yourself Permission to Grieve Honestly

You do not owe anyone a version of grief that makes them comfortable. You are allowed to have hard days. You are allowed to remember. You are allowed to need support. You are allowed to heal without acting as though the loss never happened.

Faith does not erase grief. Faith gives you something to hold onto while grief changes shape.

So yes, faith and grief can exist at the same time. I know because I have carried both.

Permission to heal starts now.
